The Art Gallery is housed in an attractive late Victorian house, a short stroll from the town centre.
Two of the most outstanding British sculptors of the 20th century, Henry Moore and Barbara Hepworth, were born within a few miles of Wakefield Art Gallery. The Gallery holds a large collection of some of their most significant work, including sculptures, drawings and paintings.
A a selection of works by British modern artists form the core of the collection.
The Gallery has a commitment for showing and purchasing work by regional artists - often reflected in the choice of exhibitions.
The Gallery provides a series of talks, workshops and activities. Regular features include:-
- 'In the Picture,' a monthly series of talks, given by a local artist.
- 'Get the Art Bug' for ages 3-12, available throughout the year.
A Print Loan Scheme enables you to bring art into your home
There is a shop stocking prints, cards, goodies for children and art books. A catalogue of the work in the gallery is available.
Ramped access is available to the ground floor of the Gallery.
